What is a kundli?
A kundli (janam kundli, janam patri or birth chart) is a map of the sky at the moment you were born, as seen from your birthplace. It shows which of the twelve signs was rising in the east (your Lagna or ascendant), where the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu stood, and which of the twelve houses each falls in. Your Rashi is the sign the Moon was in, and your nakshatra is the lunar mansion of the Moon, which also sets the order of your Vimshottari dasha periods.
Because the Lagna changes about every two hours, two people born on the same day can have very different charts. That is why a kundli needs the birth time and place, not only the date.
How it is calculated
AstroChart uses the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa, whole-sign houses and the mean lunar node. Planetary longitudes and the Lagna are tested automatically against Swiss Ephemeris reference values and must agree within 0.02 degrees.

How do I make my kundli by date of birth?

What if I do not know my exact birth time?
Use the closest time you know. The planets’ signs and your Moon sign change slowly, so they are usually right, but the Lagna (ascendant) moves one sign about every two hours, so houses and dasha dates depend on an accurate time.
Which system does AstroChart use?
Vedic (Jyotish) astrology: the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, whole-sign houses and the mean node for Rahu and Ketu. The KP tab uses Placidus cusps and the KP ayanamsa. Birth time is converted with the historical timezone rules of the birthplace.
What is the difference between the North Indian and South Indian chart?
They show the same kundli. In the North Indian (diamond) chart the houses stay in place and the sign numbers move, with the Lagna always at the top. In the South Indian chart the signs stay in place, Pisces in the top-left corner, and the Lagna is marked. You can switch between them on every chart.
